Pygmy Falcon Afrikankääpiöhaukka

Polihierax semitorquatus

A very small bird of prey, lenght only 19,5cm, size of a shrike!
Not just the size, its hunting habits are also shrike-like, perching on top of dead tree to scan the ground, and when the prey is located
(large insects and small lizards) it drop in a quick swoop and capture it.
Pygmy Falcon has a special cooperation with the Sociable Weavers by having a nest chamber in nest of Sociable Weavers.
It neither survive the harsh winter nights without the thermal comforts of weavers' nest (inside temperature never falls below +15C in winter)
whilst offering the weavers protection from lizards.
