Rarest sulid in the world. Nests only on Christmas Island in tall rainforest trees on central plateau.
Estimated population approx. 2500 mature pairs.
They travel far from the island in search for food to an area of enriched fishing grounds
created by the upwelling currents to the south of Sumatra (200-300km NW of Christmas Island).
