Manchester CT - CT Firemen's Historical Society Fire Museum
On April 25, 2009, the Connecticut Firemen's Historical Society (CFHS) opened its doors for the summer season. The museum, which is located in Manchester CT on the corner of Hartford Rd. and 208 Pine Street, has a wide variety of historical artifacts including helmets, lanterns, a complete Gamewell fire alarm office, and actual restored pieces of CT fire apparatus. The opening held a special meaning because the CFHS welcomed a beautifully restored water tower apparatus that served the City of Hartford for some five decades into the museum. The HFD Water Tower 1 was on display during the day, and in the afternoon, the truck was set up for operation and water was flowed for about an hour! It was quite a site. The grand opening was well attended, including many active and retired CT firefighters. Charles Teale, Chief of Department Hartford FD was in attendance as well. The museum will be open on Saturdays from noon to 4:00 PM until mid-October. For additional information on the museum, you can call (860) 649-9439, or check out the CFHS web site at www.thefiremuseum.org
