Zoo Parents Day

Evening at St.Louis Zoo in early September, special event for Zoo adoptive parents.
Approaching sunset, fairly low lighting conditions, and some indoors (zoo hospital) with available light, no flash used.
Camera: PENTAX Auto 110, tiny tiny little SLR with interchangable lenses, loading 110 miniature film cartridges.
Film: some old Fuji 200 110 film that I found in the back of the freezer.
Lenses: f:2.8 / 24mm normal, and f:2.8 / 50mm telephoto.

Agree with Phil, but you know, 110 also teach us that size can make the difference and it is the lens which do the work. Film isn't going to move, but once you touch that lens, just the slightest movement, can and will blur a subject. Even those small cameras that have a cable release port, should be used in combination with a tripod. Ed does great work it seems on just about any camera he uses, and even his own concoctions of parts have produced some fantastic shots for us to enjoy. Thanks Ed and Phil. DonP.

I've got one of those Pentax Auto 110s. They are sharp little critters, but at my age and with carpal tunnel problems, a bit hard to hand hold. I find my Minolta 110 Zoom MkII easier to hand hold because of it's size. It is equally as sharp and the zoom lens is a bit of an advantage. Of course the miniscule size is part of thr Pentax's charm. Charles S.

Really illustrates a couple of points about 110 cameras, subminis in general, Polaroid SX-70s, etc -- (1) they're at their best when taking pictures of 'uncluttered' subjects that fill the frame (like the cobra sculpture and 12polar bear3) as opposed to pictures with small detail or distant subjects; (2) fixed focal length lenses are a real boon to small negatives (even 35mm), much better performance than zooms. Minolta 110 couldn't touch these images for sharpness. Great pictures.

Ed: I've got to get my Kodak 110 out of the closet and load it with Walgreens film and see how they turn out. Your photos are tops and very well done. I liked #12Polar3. Charlie

Ed It's Amassing what those Pentax 110 SLR's can turn out when you concider the format size Well done one the sharp and detailed prints, and well done Pentax too
