Argus / Cosina STL 1000 Holiday Images

This is the second classic Argus camera I have used this Holiday Season.
The body was built by Cosina for import by Argus into the USA market. It was a nicely appointed 35mm SLR for the time, with through the lens metering, and Universal 42mm thread mount.
The one I used for this series is black body, with hotshoe, and top mounted speed dial. This particular body is also extremely battered, well used by someone in the past. The repairs I made got it through this roll of film.
Film was Walgreens house brand ASA 200 print film.
Lens was a GAF f:1.9/50.
The shot with the red pillow and bears was with a shoe mounted Chinon auto mode flash unit.
All other images were available light.
I used extension tubes for focusing the closeups of the tree ornaments.

I bought this camera new in 1972 and used it exclusively for almost 30 years until the digital, and much welcomed, cameras became availible. And, shortly after purchasing this camera I bought a Super Tukamar 135mm lens. Still have it. It works better than any other of the many lens I have for the body. You will be happy with it.

Tom, Yes, you should be able to fit virtually any m42 screwmount lens (Pentax Screwmount, Praktica Screwmount, Universal Screwmount, et cetera) to an Argus STL 1000. Ed Kowalski

Just bought one today from our local recycling depot for $2.00. It did not have a lens on it and it has s few dings on the prism housing. It has a battery in it and the meter is working. I'll be using one of my spare Spotmatic lens when I test it. From what I've read on the internet I think I got a good camera for the price I paid....

Great photos!I have an Augus/Cosina STL1000 that I purchased new in 1973 for a photography class.I think it was a wonderful camera for it's time,it still works perfectly after almost 40 years.

Fun collection, I see you too have favorite personal subjects (8a) that frequently become part of a day's shooting! Good-looking camera, too, classic SLR lines.

Nice photographs Ed. Did wife Joyce assist with set decorations? Clean and sharp iamges with vivid color. I have an Argus STL1000 but with the front mounted shutter speed control. They were solidly constructed (nearly indestructable?) cameras made of metal, not plastic. Long live Argus cameras! Thanks, Dave
