I purchased this camera body cheap, sold for "parts, as is, untested."
So I coupled it to a Pentax AF 35-70mm zoom and took it for a spin.
Three issues noted: 1)Camera does not like alkaline batteries, but does just fine with AA rechargeables. 2)Built in pop up flash does not work (I do available light shooting mostly, anyway). 3)Camera MIGHT be a little slow with the autofocus in low light conditions.
The 35-70mm lens might not be the finest available, but it is sharp enough in the center of image, very light weight to carry, and has a good macro range on the dial after you push the ring past the 70mm mark.
Location of test is Big River (major tributary of Meramec River), at the former site of the Byrnes Mill (not to be confused with Byrnesville Mill, another grist mill a bit upriver).
The mill itself has been nothing but ruins for several decades. And the dam is breached. I worked my way through broken concrete and brush to the end furthest from the mill, where the river now flows through.
Although there is the beginning of Fall color at higher elevations in the area, the lower areas around the rivers are, as usual, several weeks behind the change.
All images are available light and hand held.
I think this camera body, equipped with longer lenses, will become my "go-to" for whatever wildlife shows up in my backyard.
