At last Sunday's camera show for 10.00 I picked up a good working Pentax ME film body (NOT used for this photo gallery).
As a bonus, it was attached to an 80-200mm "Gemini" branded macro zoom lens.
After unsticking a stubborn filter, everything seemed to clean up well. Question was, is this off-name lens worth using?
So I mounted it to a Pentax K100 D digital body for a test. Lens has the "A" setting so exposure control works with the digital body.
Lens is strictly manual focus, but no problem, the K100 D has Focus Confirmation indicators.
On this camera body, due to size of digital sensor plate, the lens performs as if it is a 120 - 300mm lens.
Just as I was heading out, a low cloud deck rolled over us to soften the light.
It has been mostly dry weather wise. I headed over to the Meramec River at Valley Park to walk out onto the island, easily accessible at low water.
A small creek enters the river upstream of the island, after the creek passes beneath an old concrete railroad bridge.
I set the ASA at 800 to help with conditions and the length of the lens, and also carried a light tripod, which I used for some of the shots (but not all).
An extra one stop +0.1 was dialed into compensation to make the lens more accurate in exposures, as measured with an 18% reflectance gray card at home. Most older manual focus lenses seem to benefit from some compensation when used with a digital body, one direction or the other.
I think the results from the lens were just fine.
