Found some of my photos from when Kelly Miller Circus came to town 20 years ago. These were in the morning, erecting the Big Top.
The tent in the first image is the sideshow tent, Big Top was not up yet.
Camera: well brassed black body SP II Pentax Spotmatic with Super Takumar lens.
Unknown film, all shot hand held with available light.
These are scanned from the old 3 1/2 x 5 paper prints.

Very good photo reporting Ed. You were really up close. In #2 it appears the elephant is joining in the conversation. Interesting they let all the spectators inside while the big top was going up.
