This species is endangered in the wild. It grows in Chile's coquimbo region, about 30°S, north of Santiago and south of the Atacama Desert.
This specimen is in Dick Endt's nursery display garden at LandsEndt, Oratia, in the Waitakere Ranges northwest of Auckland NZ.
