Peter Brady's garden in Auckland, New Zealand

Photos taken during the 2004 Heroic Gardens Festival, 19th-20th Feb, an annual event in which Auckland's gay and lesbian gardeners open their gardens to the public to raise money for charity.

A somewhat theatrical, flamboyant garden, developed around an Art Deco bungalow built in 1934 on the site of a stone quarry in Mount Eden, Auckland. Influences appear to include Burle Marx, Japanese and Balinese gardens. Mr. Brady is keen on sculpture and has a wide variety of original pieces dotted around his garden.
