My name is Eddie Maier. I am often called Eddie Spaghetti. I've been creating art as long as I can remember. Printmaking has become my main method of art making but I love to work with many materials including: clay, watercolor, oils, wire, wood, etc. When I discovered printmaking, it struck me deep to my core. I can remember that magic from 1st grade when we had to give our finger prints. A finger print is our most incredible design, and it's yours, individually yours, one of a kind. When making a print, an artist will create a block or plate, ink it up and "stamp" it on paper; much like making a finger print. Like anybody who is passionate about something, I want to share my discoveries through teaching. I work as a substitute teacher in Monongalia county and hold workshops throughout the year. I want to help people who love art but don't have the time or maybe lack the personal motivation to do a project. I have a gift at enabling even the most artistic alien the ability to find their beauty within and apply it to art making.
As a Printmaker, my favorite method of printing is woodcut. Woodcut printing consists of carving a piece of wood, inking the surface then printing on handmade paper. My inspiration comes from nature's bountiful beauty. By making art, I feel I can live closer to the spirit that moves through all things. I learned my trade initially while traveling to Australia. I've picked up many tricks from scores of generous people. West Virginia University is the place where I earned my degree in printmaking and art education. My art is a conversation between you, me and the people and places of inspiration. Thanks for sharing your time.
