I saw one today in my backyard here in Central Kentucky. For a snake...not bad looking! I didn't feel threatened by it, that is for sure!

We get these in our house all the time. If the cats don't kill them, I usually catch them and put them back out in my gardens. Our one cat, Indy, does a real good job finding them and killing them. We call her baby snake killer!!

I live in a the small town of Seguin, located in central Texas. I let the dog out early this morning and her barking alerted me to a five to six inch little black snake with a heavy white (creamy) collar laying on the back porch. This little snake was not afraid of my curious and loud dog, rather it turned around and basically, stared her down. After offering the dog a treat to get her away from the little guy (girl), the snake slowly slithered away into a sprinkler head hole. We have seen many snakes in our yard, most non-venomous, garter snakes, brown snakes, a few black snakes, but we have never encountered one like this. How common is it to see one of these guys in our neck of the woods? I have researched photos of the "Herp" of Texas but the head shape and neck color where more similar to the above photos.

Saw one of these yesterday (May 19) in the Porcupine Mountains of western upper Michigan, about two miles from Lake Superior. A beautiful snake!

It's late afternoon here in Northern VA, & my daughter spotted one of these lithe lovelies about an hour ago relaxing on our blacktop driveway. It looked uninjured, but very young; no more than 5" in length, glossy black w/that bright yellow-white head band. I gently urged it off of the driveway to where it's safe & sound in the leaf litter beneath our azaleas. I understand it's rare to see these, especially during the daytime hours. I'm glad my girl & I were given the opportunity!

been a snake lover all my life, 50 years. i live in the u.p. of michigan 12 miles from lake superior. i have a large population of small red bellied snakes and a few eastern garter snakes on my creek front property. yesterday i found a first. in 45 years of lifting up logs , plywood and anything else that could harbor a snake i found a northern ringneck snake. now i know how a birder feels when they see a unusual first. thanks for the nice pictures.
