I visited Silver City Idaho and hiked to the top of War Eagle Mountain in August of 2006. The city is called a "ghost town" but it is hardly unoccupied. During the summer many people live in various homes and buildings and the town is watched by a caretaker in the winter. Many of the buildings there date to the 1800's, and many are kept up in fair conditoin. There is no electricity nor telephone lines in Silver City. The hotel has a small restaurant that will take you back to the old times, the hotel itself seems to be barely standing with crooked walls and slanted floors. After a quick walk around the dirt streets, we headed up the road to War Eagle mountain. It was about a 1.5 hour hike to the top, with unfortunately rather smokey views of the surrounding area.
