I've always wanted to try something like this. A little bit of scouting, planning & patience....
Spotted this water lily yesterday morning while on a walk. Since they open and close with the rising & setting sun, I planned to come back today at sunrise. It took about 45 minutes from start to finish - patiently sitting on a rock at the edge of a pond.
The experience was magical - a small waterfall gurgling away close by, the sun rising over my shoulder, and this beautiful flower slowly opening to the light of the rising sun.
Needed all of my tricks - especially my Gitzo 2220 tripd with one leg on a rock out in the water, another running horizontal past my neck to a high rock behind me & the 3rd where ever it would fit. Water proof hiking boots and a diffusion disk to help with the sun dring the final 10 minutes when it finally reached the lily helped. A nice little 2 mile hike for exercise thrown in for good measure (while carrying 30 pounds of gear). A great morning.
