Camera phones are so good now that will use my Moto X Play (20MP) for most stuff.
Next camera for Moscow will be an original GRD MKIV I think.
For travel I need to be very light with no heavy camera gear.. taking a Coolpix A (28mm compact with DX sensor). Also will use my Nokia 1020 Smartphone camera (41MP and 25mm wide 16:9) with the added PD-95G camera grip.
Nikon Coolpix A
My Favourite of all time
Comes down to a 135/2L lens on a DCS 560 - it was and remains amazing
C7070WZ... breathtaking at 27mm.
The Ricoh GR D MKI - I have a love/hate relationship with this camera. It simply is beautiful but the noise levels make it almost useless past ISO 100, far far worse than most cameras, the image is almost destroyed. An F20/30 sensor in a GR D body, with the Oly 7070 27mm end lens, that would be possibly heaven.
I will for my next travel journey purchase a nice premium well researched 28mm compact - along the ideals I mention above.
In my experience for DSLR - Nikon, Canon and Fuji
For Bridge - the old Oly's 7070/8080, the FZ series, the 5400 was well built and neat
For wide - the Panasonic LX range, the Oly 7070/8080, the 5400
For low light compact - Fuji F20/F30 rule completely
For Travel - the Panasonic LX series and the smaller FZ's, the Ricoh GR D.
Favourite 2 Megapixel Images

My Favorite Cameras
Olympus E-1 - competes against the D1 series for the title of "Tank" - superb build - absolutely superb
Fuji F20/F30 - unbeatable
Olympus 7070WZ - best bridge ever
Kodak DCS 560 (coupled with the 135/2L) - my #1 of all-time greats
Ricoh GR D (MKI) - love/hate - mostly love
Lumix FZ5 - very very fond memories
Nikon D2H - machine gun - ergonomic perfection
Pictures on this site were taken with:
C7070WZ (since '07)
Fuji F30+ (to replace the F20, basically the same camera though)
Lumix TZ9 (used briefly)
Olympus 5050Z - predecessor of the 5060WZ/7070WZ/8080WZ.
Pro 815 - Head to head with the Oly 7070 as the best Prosumer Camera I have used
Contax TVS Digital Old, Quirky and Lovable. Image Quality so-so but capable of good results.
F30 A legendary Compact - if you don't believe me check the reviews and Internet chatter
GR D Beautiful.. and noisy, but I look back with very very fond memories - likely will get another (2011 note)!
D2x Superb but so large. Not my ideal travel camera for sure! (Spent 2 months traveling around Ukraine with it!)
DSC-R1 Mindblowing in many respects, but as large as an SLR. Lens makes up for it though*
DSC-S40 Nice little 4.1MP compact. Unpretentious vanilla as they come.*
G9 Overrated and noisy. Ergonomics not that great. OK at low ISO though*
S10 Quite a nice shooter. Underrated in my opinion. A bit like a 990 on steroids. Superb Bokeh almost unbelievable.
7070 Superb Camera - Best Semi-Compact I have ever used, 27mm often was stunning
G5 Much the same as the G2 but a more solid feel and increased res.
G2 Neat and fast lens.. sharp... seems ancient now!
FZ5 Better FZ2 same ergonomics - used *very* heavily by me
FZ2 Work of Art - greatly impressed by this little thing
Leica Digi2 A nice camera with a nice lens that produced some quality "Leica'rish" results
D2H Fast as Hell... and ultimately flexible - very very likeable
DCS 560 One of the best Cameras I have ever owned if not THE best esp coupled with the 135/2L
Leica M6 Oldie and made me feel quite nostalgic but heavily overrated
D1X Solid as a Rock... Literally - the only machine I'd take into a war zone
DCS 520 Ex US Newsroom, Very noisy (unusable) at higher ISO
EOS 1Ds Absolutely Gorgeous
EOS 1D Nice Body, Low Noise and takes EF lenses!
EOS 10D Nice but slow AF and a bit soft at times, about 60% of the build quality of the 1D
EOS D30 Good backup Body, but slow and fragile - increasingly ageing and not gracefully
Coolpix 990 A Major Classic and beautiful images
EOS 30 Vanilla Modern EOS Film Camera - a bit boring
EOS 1RS Speed Demon Film Camera
Coolpix 5400 Solidly built - nice camera but images sometimes soft - may have been settings - $1000 from the manezh photo store moscow!
DCS 3400 Nice little compact - Kodak saturated colors like the 265
Ixus 2MPP My first Digital picture on this site (2000) - nice but lacked contrast
D30 One of the first! It was a novelty!
Casio QV-3000EX I remember being stunned by 3MP!!! But I didn't hold onto this long. A guy traveled all the way from London to Edinburgh just to buy this!!!! Hard to imagine now!
DC 215 Easily... easily the camera I hate the most in the entire world.. it sucked
(DC 265 First Digital - fond memories - nice Kodak saturation) *No Pictures available - recall buying this August 1999 at £350 from Dixons, Liverpool over the water!
Best Lenses I have used (see pictures on this site):
135/2 L EF Easily the best lens I have used - period. (And I have used many Canon L lenses) - this lens is technically perfect and delivers mind blowing results
35-350 L Very very nice - discontinued - surprisingly good bokeh
85/1.2L FD Truly magnificent and amazing DOF
35/1.4 AI'd Superb old Nikon lens (see it coupled to a 1Ds on my pages via an Adaptor)- early 70's pre AI model AI'd - incredible lens
400/5.6 AI(S) ED* Bulky well made stunning lens esp. on the D1X.
105/2.5 Ai A Legend.
* Pics to be uploaded
GR1 Mini Review I did back in early '99
"In a message dated 99-01-15 From: firstname.lastname@example.org (EA). Christmas spent in Eastern Europe (Sofia, Bulgaria). Instead of my bulky EOS system took a GR1 that I had just purchased. I have just got the slides back from the developers. Film used was Fuji Sensia 100 (Consumer Astia) and Kodak Chrome 100. Results nothing short of superb. Excellent edge-to-edge sharpness... the lens is absolutely breathtaking, and the size makes it really the only P&S I would ever consider. It slips into the pocket easily and you just know when its time to use the results are going tbe good...I used to have a Contax T2... fat and ugly compared to the GR1, a camera truly built by professionals for professionals. I absolutely love it. PS. If your thinking of buying one... don't think.. just do it.. you'll never regret it."
