Texas From Above

Our mission: Document this month's progress on the fish hatcheries for the Fish and Wildlife Department.
My mission: Take as many photographs as I could hold in my media card, then download them to their computers.
Notes: John removed the doors of the helicopter to make better photographing possible. It was cold up there. I quickly learned to keep my telephoto lens away from the doorway and the gusting wind. I also learned not to feel concerned about composition, for the helicopter moved about so much, it worked better to just click away. Click on an image to enlarge it. Enjoy.

A waterway flows through the fields. A startled coyote runs across the wheat field. Farmer Marten plows the field. That's Marten-in-the-Fields (Wink.)
Farmer Art. Glimpse of a long-abandoned cemetery in the middle of the fields. Prairie Dog dwelling. McCall's abandoned cabin.
Cows. Taylor Knob. Slough in violation of federal laws. Our destination: the fish hatcheries.
Fish hatcheries at Lake Diversion. g6/94/689794/3/69664752.m4oqihBg.jpg Each pond (one acre) holds thirty-thousand fish of various kinds. The hatcheries from two thousand feet.
Mesquite trees on a small island. g6/94/689794/3/69677189.ufNhoXdl.jpg Farmer Marten's artwork. I particularly enjoy looking at this image. The wheat has just sprouted.
Plowing around steel grasshoppers. Dromedarian camels near the hatcheries. g6/94/689794/3/69683129.KSBdNh67.jpg Taylor's big guy, a Limousine bull.
Abandoned house next to the airport. Airport on the top left, Lake Wichita on the top right, Wichita River in the middle. Art on the hoof. g6/94/689794/3/69683677.LDkENgnp.jpg
Blue Heron stands peacefully on an island. Intriguing formations, perhaps created by wild hogs. Feed lot. Pilot and handsome husband of mine.
Bundled me.
