Cowboys Branding in Archer County
Foreman Clay invited me to stop by one morning to watch his cowboys brand and medicate cattle.
A rose and a feather in his hat.
The fencer's dog.
Miles of fencing need constant repair.
A skull on a truck.
One of the cowboys opens the gate.
The cattle arrive. In the background we see mesquite plants, not yet green, and a petroleum battery.
Cowboys herd the cattle into the pens.
Three cowboys wait their turn. They rest after rounding up the cattle.
The branding irons are heated.
The horseman ropes each calf one by one.
Two cowboys wrestle the calf to the ground.
While the two cowboys hold the calf, two other cowboys quickly brand and medicate.
They wrestled calves all morning.
Helping each other get up from the ground.
Using a pen knife to clean his shirt.
By now, the calf may have an idea what the rope is for.
Worn chaps on a young cowboy.
Spurs.
Medicating the cattle.
Boots.
A huffy bull.
The cowboy herds away the bull.
Horse trailer.
A horse named Bird.
