June 27, 2009 - At 03:20hrs the Griswold Fire Dept with automatic mutual aid from Voluntown, Jewett City, Lisbon and the Taftville FAST responded to Bethel Rd for a house fire. Voluntown units arrived first to find a raised ranch well involved in fire. A blitz attack was used to knock down the body of fire but the 6,000 gallon of water from Voluntown and Griswold would not be enough to contain the fire. Additional tankers from Plainfield, Oneco, NorthStonington,Canterbury and water from taftville's engine would be needed to contain and extinguish the fire. Firefighters had some obstacles while combating this fire. Downed live power lines, a gas fed fire, and limited water supply. fireifghter did the best they could with the sresources they had to control the fire btu in the end the home was a total loss. @ civlians were taken to the hospital for inuries. A 20 y/o male is in the Bridgeport burn center with injuries sustained while rescuing his disables father and mother from the fire. Kudos to him for rescuing his parents and we wish him a full recovery.
