Norwich - Ct 401 North Main St - Capehart Mill - April 27, 2010
Norwich, Ct - At 03:04hrs, the Norwich 911 center started receiving numerous 911 calls reporting a mill fire at the Old Capehart Mill on North Main St. Norwich Eng-2 is located directly across from the mill and Eng-2 Lt Benjamin transmitted a working fire in a 200ft by 500ft 4 stry vacant mill and requested a 2nd Alarm assignment. This was an exterior nattack from the get-go, a 3rd aalrm was quickly transmitted. The command structure was set up as well as water supply via hydrants and drafting from the mill canal. All companies worked to contain the fire to the original building and prevent it from spreading to an adjourning building which house class A material. Crews worked for 5 hours to contain the fire. Some of the fire companies on scene were Norwich, East Great Plains, Laurel Hill, Taftville, Yantic, Occum, Mohegan Tribe, Montville, and Jewett City. Numerous other department covered various stations through out the city and town of Norwich. It is estimated that companies will be on scene for about 3 days to completely extinguish all the fire and the Norwich FMO, State FMO and ATF are investigating.
