Looking back

Looking back on Hakluyttoppen N/2203m from Gjuvtinden/2113m.
Again - we measured these 3 peaks with a GPS to approx. 18m lower than annotated on the maps.
That is: Gjuvtinden/2095m, Hakluyttoppen N/2185m, Hakluyttoppen S/2155.
These measurements were consistent over a series of readings.
On the rest of the crater rim, the GPS readings were in line with the maps.
And if looking closely, you can vaguely see me standing upright atop the huge mountain shadow!

Olympus E-3, ZD 7-14@7mm, F10, 1/640s IS, ISO 100, EV -0.3, handheld full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Just a small message from a wee housewife in Scotland who has always been fascinated by volcanoes - congratulations in your achievement! The photos are spectacular and amazing quality. They made me feel like I was actually there. I was totally fascinated by some of the geographical and geological features. I'm just amazed at the climb up the sharp slope with drops at each side; the vent in the crater that looks so tame covered in snow but harnesses goodness knows what kind of power in it - did you experience any small tremors whilst you were up there, considering the volcano is active? I'm just amazed that tehre were no avalanches to hinder your progress. Many congratualtions again...and maybe next time you will get into that crater! All the best! SB
