The Baumkronenpfad
(Tree Crown Path)



Is situated in a forest in the National Park Hainich, Thüringen, in the former
East Germany (DDR) On the 31st Dec 1997 this beautiful area of forest was given
National Park status. The forest has a very unique pathway, to get to the start
of the path you first have to climb a spiral staircase round a tower to a point
10m above the ground. You are now amongst the treetops, the path now winds its
way through the treetops and above. For 300m the path rises gently and
eventually you are back at the tower. You are now at 24m and can climb even
higher to the observation platform, which is 44m above ground level.

From here you can
see the whole area and beautiful views of Hainich.

The nearby town of Bad Langensalza is a spa town that has been beautifully
renovated over the last 15 years. As you can see from the photos there are still
signs of life as it was in the time of the DDR.   The town has many
lovely shops and cafes and the locals are amongst the friendliest people I have
met here in Germany.
