During the day they can be found hiding & legs tucked on the underside of leaves on the trees where they web-hunt at night, harmless I think

I'm pretty sure this is what I saw in my back yard when I took my dog out at 5am this morning. I felt something touch my head while standing on my patio. I pointed my flashlight and this is what I saw! It was huge, with a very large web stretching from a Jasmine tree across my patio! I went back out around 6:30am and the spider was gone, along with it's web. There was no trace of it.

One of these dropped down in front of me because I mowed through it's web. The web was thick and as I backed up I realized the web was then on me and it statyed crawling to me. I had no choice but to get the web on the grass and step on it. Is this spider dangerous?

I have found 2 of these in my yard in North Miami Beach, FL. One had a web that extended from the roof of my house to the neighbor's oak tree and the one I found yesterday jumped from the roof of the house to the hood of the car right after I parked and walked into the house last night. I've walked into this web a few times is thick as heck and hard to break/get rid of.

Homestead, FL. We get millions of giant Banana Spiders here, but this, this is really nasty looking. I know its not harmful but twice I've had to get rim of one that made a 12ft web from my car to a nearby small tree. I leave for work at 5:00am and so its still dark and I can't have that. I normally leave spiders alone because I hate mosquitos more.

I just came back from a short bike ride and I beleive it was a male orb. 1/2-3/4". Very pretty. I've only been in SW Fl 21/2 yrs. so the first thing I looked for was the hour glass. Instead it had a odd shaped 1/2 moon blend into the front part of the abdomen. Is this the right I.D.?

Do you have a picture of the under side of this spider? And is it poisonous ? I have alot of them in my oak trees. My grandson is now of the age that climbing the trees is great fun!

We get these regularly in Citrus County. They tend to set up their impressive & expansive web after nightfall and are nowhere to be found by morning. As soon as it gets dark again they return & do it all over again. Keep your eyes peeled to avoid wandering into their web. I've never had any negative issues with one, but I firmly believe "if you don't start anything, there won't BE anything" with spiders who are minding their own business outside. ;)

I found one in Ocala. It built a 9 ft tall, 4 ft wide, flat spiral web beginning from my car to my fence, that started from an over hanging branch above... in less than 2 hours. My child passed through the entire web while on our way out of the driveway to walk the dog. It bit the dog multiple times, sending it into anaphylactic shock. He was paralyzed, and defecated on himself repeatedly, for hours. The vet kept him overnight, and had to put him on a breathing machine to save his life. I was very shocked to hear this 3" long spider has the capability to kill a small dog. Be careful!
