Daniel, could you guess what the legspan is on this spider? What a great find and photo! Thanks!

When first I saw this girl I was in awe. She was twice a large as the the other orb weavers. I don't know what the record is for Araneus bicentenarius, it may be in my yard. It's truly an impressive animal. Thanks for the identification.

I too had one of these in my pole barn where we sit at night, we named it "muzzles" and often joked that its web was so big because it was trying to catch my overweight friend. We fed her as we'll , sometimes blizzards. A large preadatory wasp got her though. I saw it hurrying her in the sand below her web. I had seen the wasp do this before but never expected it to go after her

We just found one over our hot tub and didn't know what kind of spider it was.

Thankyou, Daniel. I thought this was the right spider. We have three so far and keep our eyes open. We throw them all the big bugs we find. They LOVE June bugs! Your help, as always, is indispensible! Their webs are always a coversation piece with anyone visitig as they are so big. I measured one at 6' x 5' and the new one outside our kitchen window is even larger. I got a wonderful video of her working on the web at dusk last night. She had started it during the day, but hid herself away when the sun came around. Once it cooled down, there she was, knitting away. Beautiful!
