WPPD 2018

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day - 29 April 2018.

For 2018 we used the 8x10 Pinhole Camera, with yet another freshly made pinhole, This year's version used a slightly closer to optimum hole, 0.020 inches (0.51 mm) for an aperture of f/300.

Shots were taken with Fuji HR-T X-ray film. Ye Olde Photographer first made a short visit to Birdsboro, where a huge industrial complex that built tanks for the military from 1943 to around the late 1950s was demolished. The site is now becoming a gas-fired generating station. As had been noticed before, access is restricted and getting the sort of shots YOP would like is difficult. So we took two to prove we were there and returned closer to home, the Heckler Farmstead, a park and historic site in Lower Salford Township, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. There we took two shots of the 1761 vintage barn, a classic Pennsylvania structure of the period, and two of the farmhouse, a building of similar vintage.

The pairs of shots were taken with exposures about a stop apart, but the camera was moved a bit between to vary the composition slightly. Being pressed for time, these originally uploaded photos were "scanned" negatives — scanned by using a Canon G15 mounted on a tripod and looking down to a negative laid on a light box. The photo of the negative was inverted in a photo editor to get a positive image. There was some occasional variation in light and white balance, but the general result comes across reasonably well. In June YOP found a bit of time to do proper contact prints of two of the best, one of which was placed in an art exhibition.

The official WPPD submission should appear at this link.
