The 2013 Turkey Day Expedition was centered on Shepherdstown, West Virginia, the oldest incorporated city in WV. The cast of characters included Ye Olde Photographer, his Faire Spouse, and another couple. For the big day itself, we were joined by one of their sons and two of our nieces.
Almost next to the inn where we stayed was a bridge over the Potomac River. Just beyond the far end of that bridge was access to the C&O Canal Trail. North of that was Antietam National Battlefield. To our west was Harpers Ferry.
Compared with the weather for our 2011 and 2012 Turkey Day excursions, this event was a bit more hostile. There was light drizzle and occasional flurries during the drive down on Tuesday, and all four days struggled to get up to 40ºF. In spite of that, we still managed to get in some decent walks to at least partially burn off the calories from some fantastic food!
