In lieu of appling and cheesing this year (2015), we wandered around the west rim of Pine Creek Gorge, "Penn's Canyon" or The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania if you prefer! We picnicked in Colton Point State Park, wandered to the one time lumbering town of Leetonia, and walked a bit of the Pine Creek Rail Trail north of and into Cedar Run. The rail trail is on the right of way of the former Jersey Shore, Pine Creek and Buffalo Railway which eventually was part of the New York Central.

It would have been difficult to find a nicer October day!
