As part of the bus trip sponsored by Greater Norristown Art League, one of the clubs Ye Olde Photographer belongs to, we traveled to New York City, spending two and a half hours or so at the Museum of Modern Art, followed by a short bus trip down Fifth Avenue to the Salmagundi Club where we had a "lunch" which would pass for dinner in YOP's home! Following that we had considerable time to enjoy the American Watercolor Society 148th Annual International Exhibition filling two galleries at the Salmagundi Club.
Our first actual stop was at the MoMA, at 53rd Street and 5th & 6th Avenues. On the third level there was a major collection of photography from the early part of the 20th Century on exhibit. Remarkably, museums appear to be acceeding to the proliferation of phone cameras and there were no signs about "No Photography" so Ye Olde Photographer took just a minuscule representative sampling to illustrate a little of the flavor of this museum.
We also took in some of the paintings and sculpture, but ran out of time after pretty much covering only one of the several levels. Of course those levels included legendary works by Picasso, Monet, and van Gogh. It left us feeling the urge to come back sometime and focus on just that museum.
