As part of a bus trip sponsored by Greater Norristown Art League, one of the clubs Ye Olde Photographer belongs to, we traveled to New York City, spending two and a half hours or so at the Museum of Modern Art, followed by a short bus trip down Fifth Avenue to the Salmagundi Club where we had a "lunch" which would pass for dinner in YOP's home! Following that we had considerable time to enjoy the American Watercolor Society 148th Annual International Exhibition filling two galleries at the Salmagundi Club.
Unlike in the previous year, museums and exhibitions appear to be yielding to the ubiquitous cellphone cameras and permitting casual photography. There were way too many reflections from high overhead lights and also objects on the far side of the gallery to do anything resembling a good job, and an iPhone would not be the macchina fotografica of choice for this sort of work. But Ye Olde Photographer attempted to capture some of the flavor of the exhibited work. There was a wide variety of styles and subjects, but all at an impressive level of accomplishment.
The weather was great, the trip well organized and our driver had us back at the starting point before 7:00 pm; a pleasant day.
