An early settlement which became part of what is now Douglassville. This spot is located along the Schuylkill River between Pottstown and Reading. Until 1951 this spot was also home to the last wooden covered bridge across the Schuylkill River. The first settlers were of Swedish origin and came here after spending some time in Philadelphia.
The buildings are now part of the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County. All, particularly the Mounce Jones House and the Bridge Keeper's House, have experienced a fair amount of restoration, as there has been considerable damage wrought by the nearby Schuylkill River. The most recent major flooding occurred when hurricane Agnes dumped torrential rains on eastern Pennsylvania.
This expedition was prompted by a celebration of Argust 7th. It was a rather hot and humid August day, but the work was completed before lunch. Three cameras were used - an Argus C3, acquired new in 1957 or 1958; a Canon A-80 digital; and the latest toy, a Bronica SQ-A loaded
with B&W (Fuji Acros). Quick release fittings enable swapping them on and off the tripod easily. Herewith is a selection of a mix from all three cameras for the amusement of viewers.
