We spent three nights in Lubec, Maine and day tripped to nearby points of interest. Our operations base was the Peacock House, a B&B that proved to be everything we had hoped for, a really pleasant experience. Several good restaurants and the bridge to Campobello Island were within a few blocks walk. In summers, Lubec is home of Summerkeys, an adult music camp that is spread out through several churches and homes in the town. Thanks to that, one evening we were able to hear an excellent piano recital by Bruce Potterton, the Summerkeys founder and piano instructor.
Part of our ongoing education included learning that the second syllable of Lubec is accented, as well as Calais is pronounced more like "KAL- liss," not a French-style "kal-LAY" and the CH in Machias is soft as in chives. This was Ye Olde Photographer's first trip this far north in the state. He guesses previous trips didn't encounter enough natives of those towns.
