Duncan, Your photographs are beautiful!

I grew up in Bo'ness but now live in England and have been looking for a large print of a good photo to hang in my new home. Can you let me know how I might go about geting a print of one of your photographs?

Also, any I know tha this is a longshot, I don't suppose you have taken any photos of the Tay bridges?

Thanks

Caroline

We have used your picture 'Old Pier no. 3' for the poster for the EPS Exhibition in the Fine Arts Library. Peter Stubbs has it up on his website now (edinphoto.org.uk) and one of his visitors wondered where it was taken.

I think that the photo you have labeled "Thistle" (dated 15-JUL-2004) is in fact of something far rarer than a thistle: the alpine eryngo, otherwise known as Queen of the Alps (Eryngium alpinum -- of the carrot family, Umbelliferae). This grows wild in Europe only in the Alps and Jura Mountains according to "The Alpine Flowers of Britain and Europe", pages 152-153 (Collins; I have the paperback 1979 edition). It is not listed in "The Wild Flowers of Britain and Northern Europe"; cf. pages 154-155 (Collins; paperback 1978 edition) and therefore presumably does not grow wild in those areas. The Queen of the Alps is something of a rarity, protected throughout Switzerland; I sought it in the hills south of Lucerne (Switzerland) when I lived there 1967-1984, but never found it. Is your photo of a cultivated plant or a wild plant?
Many thanks for showing your beautiful photos.

Jackie-

Yes, indeed my photos are for sale. I have an expensive gear habit to finance.

Was there anything in particular you were interested in?

Hello,

I am searching for a new lens and still doubting between the Tamron and Sigma. The Sigma has 4mm more wide angle and looks a lot better build. Although I've heard lots of times, this lens performances really bad at F2.8, very soft images I hear. What are your experiences on the F2.8 pictures??? Could you please contact me by email? Thx!!!

Greetz,
Faan

Hi Duncan
Great job on your flower abstracts - just love these perspectives.
Question: do you own only Canon EF-S 60mm F2.8 Macro USM 1:1 or also other macro lenses? I wonder since I'm about to invest into a macro lens but are not sure if 60mm or 100mm would best fit... I love macro-shots, but - as most people experience - there are also limits in spending money...
Thanks for your feedback
Daniel

Just had a quick peek (no pun intended) around your galleries - you've got some great stuff here.

Particularly like the Forth Bridge gallery - I've got a bit of a thing about bridges, they're so graceful.

I'll save you as favourite, so I can have a better look when I have more time.

Serena.

Hi Duncan,
Thanks for your message. I haul around a 10D and Sigma 15-30EX with me these days. I normally shoot at 15mm all the time, taking 3, 4, or 5 shots per pano in portrait or landscape format depending on how deep the scene is. I always shoot at f11, and adjust the ISO to keep the shutter speed above, say 1/40sec. The 15mm end on my lens is very sharp, but there is a soft corner problem starts above 18mm. I only ever really use the lens at 15mm anyway, so I am too worried to send it to Sigma in case they ruin it! I only ever shoot handheld, I found a tripod to be a complete hassle- whenever I stopped, got it off my backpack and set it up, the light would have passed! Hiking partners dont appreciate it either, as I'm sure you'll appreciate :) Panotools/PTAssembler with Photoshop masking gives me everything I need to make a pano where it is impossible to see the joins...with a bit of effort that is, I only ever bother stitching the best ones!
I enjoyed looking at your bivvy expeditions. I would love to do that myself sometime, when I am confident the weather is to be decent. I bought a tent in the summer and it is still shrink-wrapped! When I start camping on summits for first light, I know that I will have let the photography illness take over!
I'll definitely be keeping up with your gallery.
Take care,
Steve
