These photos were taken in August 2006 during a visit to the Silver Bear Mines on the Camsell River in the southern potion of the Sahtu in the Northwest Territories in Canada. The work was conducted with SRK Consulting as part of a larger mine site assessment. We (Northern Environmental Consulting) collected vegetation and soil samples from a tailings area and wetland to understand what levels of contaminants the local wildlife (moose, muskrats and waterfowl) might be exposed to during the spring/summer.
Colin; Fantastic photos of a place where so many people worked from accross Canada. I was the maintenance Foreman, nicked named Baby Huey. I was at Silver Bear the from Jan 83 to 87. I know everything about this area and the whole installation. Underground and on surface, everything has been etched in stone in my memeory. The mine and Terra was such a big part of my early life, I turned 19 there and also had my 20th. Picture 423 is the old Norex minesite and 459 is the old smallwood site. Both those sites had an abundance of plate silver in quartz but mainly bismith. Thank you for the wonderful pictures Colin.
