My dad, John H. Moreland was stationed I believe in New Guinea...He has passed...but whenever I would ask about his WWII time he became very gruff and did not want to talk about it...these men were all very brave, we owe them a lot and I just wish I knew more...I do have quite a few pictures from his war time in the Pacific...my mother would never let me bring them out when I was growing up because of all the nude natives..lol..so I do not have much info at all...my dad was a cook and I know from a picture I have he was with HQ Bttry 1st Bn 1st Field Artillery Camp Forrest, TN..time period May 1941...any info someone might have would be greatly appreciated..love the site..thanks for your work..

My uncle, Lieut. Robert L Rosenbloom, was a member of the 36th fighter squadron, 8th fighter group, stationed in Wards Drome, New Guinea, in 1942 in 1943. He was killed October 18, 1943 while piloting a P 39. I am interested in anyone that might have known him, or been stationed with him. I would like to find out as much about him as possible and if anyone has any pictures of him, I would love to see them.

I am looking for info on George Dyer. He said he did some nose art in WW2. I think 1 was liberty belle.?? his drawings were an inspiration to me. His wife- Myrtle used to babysit me and my brother in Kansas.

Local papers printed a picture of a Chinese Junk he was sailing. Went to Hiannisport, Mass. in Oct. 1982, met some of his friends -one said he was well known to most there, he and a major. I can't find any thing about him. Also, uncles: Jacob W. French (Atlantic City, NJ)(Chief Petti officer NAVY Seebees; Ula M. Webster,(from Waycross Ga.) eng. Seebees; Thomas E French (ACNJ), Merchant Marine Eur. Front Chief Petti boatswain CG Pac. FR. I do not know my fathers rank perhaps Tech 4.

I want to thank you for the photos of New Guinea during WWII. I never had the honor of knowing my grandfather, who served in the Army in New Guinea from 1944 to 1945. Sadly, he died in 1966, 5 years before I was born.

In doing genealogy, and most recently, researching the role that New Guinea played in the war, I feel I am getting to know him even more. Your site is an amazing place for people to connect with each other, whether they are descendants or veterans. Again...thank you!!

Hi! I also wanted to thank you for posting the pictures of the Marlatt Brothers Baseball Team! I am Ray Marlatt's Great Grand-daughter. I too, along with my cousin Lesley (who commented here a year ago) have grown up with these pictures, but have never seen the 10 Gallon Hat Picture either. My Great Grandmother Birdie (the only survivor of that generation at 99 years old) had never seen it either, but was so happy to see it here. Are you related as well? Also loved all the Marlatt family pictures as well! The pictures were restored beautifully!

Hello, Just a quick note to thank you for the restored pictures of the Marlatt Brothers Baseball team. My grandfather is one of the team, and I had grown up seeing the pictures of the team in the white sox uniforms. However had never seen the 10 Gallon Hat picture. My great Aunt, the only one left and widow of Ray Marlatt, had heard of the picture but had never seen it. I am making a copy and taking to her. Would like to know the relationship of the Onstot, and Krick family. Bill Choate is still here in Torrington. Are these your relatives too?
Thanks again. Would appreciate any more info you may have.

Hello-my daddy was also promoted the exact same times and rank as your grandaddy. His name was Robert Eldridge Cox. I have done research and believe he was in the 5th AAF, 312th BG, and possibly the 388th squadron. He was listed as an engineer. Please let me know if you possibly have any mention of him. He was in New Guinea and in the Phillipines 1944-1945.
