Note the Stearman Aircraft Company sign above Judy's head. The Stearman Aircraft Corporation of Wichita, Kansas was established in 1927. In 1929, Stearman became part of United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, a large conglomarate that controlled several aviation businesses, including United Airlines, Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, and others. In September 1934, a government antitrust action separated United's manufacturing and airline businesses, and Stearman became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Boeing Aircraft Company. |
