Nevada is a land of brilliant skies and deep contrasts. Nowhere was this more evident than in the traverse through the Toiyabe Range up Big Creek Canyon to Big Creek Summit and down Kingston Canyon. The bright sun blasted the clouds but generally avoided the deep green, sage-covered canyons. The result was a high dynamic range (HDR) situation like I've never encountered before or since. In retrospect, I should have taken two raw shots or at least doouble processed, but instead I tried to squeeze it all into the jpg range. It didn't work, of course, but I was able to salvage the next several shots with aggressive masking and painting with light. Not everything they could have been, but they still give a feel for what a dramatic experience it was.
