HFG1 and Abell 6 Planetary Nebulae

This interesting field in Casseiopeia contains planetary nebulae HFG1 and Abell 6. HFG1 is a very faint PN with a cometary structure containing a core with bowshock rim surrounding the central binary star V664 Cas. The extensive cometary tail, detailed in H alpha, is thought to represent the interaction between the PN and the interstellar medium as it rapidly passes through at supersonic speeds. Its proper motion is 13 mas/yr, and its velocity through the ISM is estimated at between 29-59 km/sec.
