Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

Photos taken at Kensington Park Nature Center, Milford, Michigan. All photographs taken with the
Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED VR AF

Adult male: Emerald green back, iridescent ruby red gorget (throat) that may appear golden, greenish, or even black under some lighting conditions, gray flanks, forked tail with no white. Smaller than the female.

Adult female: Emerald green back, white breast and throat, rounded tail with white tips. Larger than the male, with longer bill.

Jay, I know your sister Susan from the pool where we swim during the winter months and just wanted to tell how outstanding these pictures are. Last summer I tried taking pics of a hummingbird at my feeder outside the front door. Removed the screen so I could get close enough and low and behold the hummingbird flew into my living room. Never did get any pics; had a hard enough time capturing the bird and getting it back outside. You should be really proud of these; they are wonderful.
