This famous hotel was opened in 1927 by the National Park Service. The site was chosen for its views of many of the iconic sights
in Yosemite, including Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point.
The Great Lounge features period furniture, elaborate stained glass windows, and Persian rugs, and the fireplaces are so huge
that one can walk inside them. Parts of the Overlook Hotel interior set of the Stanley Kubrick movie The Shining with
Jack Nicholson ("Here's Johnny!") were modeled after The Ahwahnee's interior.
This is a very expensive hotel, so save your money and book well in advance!
