Pietà by Michelangelo

The Pietà is a renowned masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo. At the age of 23 Michelangelo was commissioned to
create this life-sized sculpture. It is housed in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. This famous work of art depicts the
body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. The sculpture is now protected by a
bullet-proof acrylic glass panel after it was attacked in 1972.

Considering this is shot through glass it has excellent clarity. Slight glass reflection in upper right does not detract from the image. I wish the background were a little less bright, though beautiful it does not help to bring out the gorgeous silky smoothness of the marble and craftsmanship of a great masterpiece.. but that is not something you can change. Well shot under difficult lighting conditions...

A beautiful sharp shot! How he could get marble to look like soft folded cloth is a miracle .... as well as the miracle of making it in the first place! Anyway, thanks for such a detailed shot of this masterpiece!

Nicely presented, Jay. Very nice job on catching the subtle details in the sculpture. The only minor nit I would offer as a possible improvement would be to tone down/blend the two hot spots on Mary's knee. Again, that's a very minor nit.

Thanks for allowing a critique of your photos. I feel the same way and welcome honest feedback rather than platitudes.
