Brian, thanks for answering. This weekend I was at the mountain shooting for the first time with D200+50-500 combo. Guess what, Bigma works much faster and more reliable than with D70. So it's a relief and I'm not that much sorry I couldn't buy myself 120-300 for Christmas. I've uploaded some of the pics here: http://www.pbase.com/miljenko/d200samples. First two were shot with Sigma 18-50 (another great lens), and the rest with the Bigma. Take care. M.
Hi Miljenko, thanks for stopping by and left a comment.
I have used Canon for a while before switching to Nikon. The main reasons being Nikon's commitment to DX format and the 200-400/4VR. I was hoping Canon would come up with an improved 20D last year but it turned out to be the FF 5D which I don't care for. In order for me to stay with Canon I would have to own the 20D for wildlife and the 1DII for sports. Canon really screwed up in drawing a solid line between 1.6X cropped sensor and pro bodies. Or is it Canon's plan to make you own multiple Canon bodies? A pro-body with a cropped sensor is exactly what I want for wildlife and sports, and Nikon has it.
I had a great run with my Bigma in my Canon days. It's flexibility is matched by none and yet it's image quality is right up there with the best. Would you believe me if I told you a good copy of the Bigma (and used properly) is just as sharp as a 200-400? You'd better believe it. Some day I would like to re-own 50-500 and 120-300. They are some excellent glass.
Hi Brian, incidently I have discovered your D200 gallery and you took my by surprize; I thought you're Canon only guy :) Now I see you're using both D2X and D200. Is it a switch or you're living in paralel worlds? I consider you one of the most responsible people that I've bought Sigma 50-500 some time ago. I'm using it a lot with decent results. It works much better with D200 than with D70. It has to stay in my bag for a little longer as the funds for 120-300 went into D200. How does 200-400 compare to Bigma? Best regards, Miljenko www.pbase.com/miljenko
