The newer engine in these pictures is Al Vangura's cutaway bench motor for demonstration and teaching. It's been apart and together so many times, and assembled dry each time, that the o-rings are pinched and shredded. You wouldn't use ones like this in a real motor. But it's a good example of how clean your cylinder base needs to be.
