Adjust alignment of rocker arm assemblies

Torque bottom stud nuts to 5 ft-lbs to seat PRT seals and draw up the cylinder evenly to the engine. Then torque the top stud nuts to 5 ft-lbs.

Place H-shaped jig over rocker arm assemblies and gently tap lower rocker blocks with rubber mallet to correctly position pushrods in PRTs. They should be centered horizontally, and just above the centerline vertically. Gently tap the upper rocker blocks to center them on the protruding sleeves on the cylinder studs. Check position of the pushrods to ensure it is still correct.

Jig isn't remotely mandatory. Rockers can be aligned by eye. Read snobums site for more info.

Is this jig "mandatory" equipment, or can the rocker shafts be measured and compared (top and bottom) with a depth gauge, to find center?

I'm pretty sure I don't have this tool in my toolbox...
