Shots of a young male Mountain Lion /Puma/Cougar

"Alex" is the name we've given to a young male Mountain Lion that has grown accustomed to our home in Clarkdale, Arizona. He was first seen in early March, 2006, after which our local Game and Fish officer came by to tranquilize and tag him with a radio receiver. Since then he hangs around, drinking at the bird waterer, and catching an occasional rabbit, squirrel, or Raccoon. It's a mixed blessing, having a Lion in the yard!

Great shots, thanks for sharing them and letting us know. Is he still around and any danger to your family? Racoons are one thing but children??

What great shots and exciting to see such a magnificent animal up close. Down side is if he gets overly habituated and loses his fear of humans, it could be tantamount to a death sentence. Good luck. Stephan

That is a very exciting encounter and great photos! but that youngster does look thin. Probably why he risked coming so close to people. We have them in our neighbourhood (British Columbia) but i have never seen one in 10 years. Hope he survives. Are their numbers increasing there?

Great series Doug. Glad you let birdpix aware of them. This looks lke a young, very skinny lion, probably trying to establish a new territory. Hope it survives.

Wow! is all I can say. Wendy told us about these photos and also about the skunk! It is amazing that he will come in the house. Too bad about the tags though. The radio will deform his ear after a while. I hope he survives.

Well, Us big city folks are just sitting here with our mouths wide open!@!! What an amazing thing to be able to witness this bit of wilderness. I just want all of you to be VERY careful!!!!! one more swipe at your child, and i have a feeling that "side arm" will be kilkin'! adios muchacho! hope he takes off on his own, but its us or them brother. hope everything is good otherwise. the boys were stoked to see those pics, even though they were initially pretty angry over the racoon. give the little lady our love, and you too.

You have a wonderful collection of images documenting Alex's behavior and tagging. To bad the tags left him a little less photogenic. he is a beautiful cat. I liked the images that show the difinition of his muscles. Linda
