The Ridges Sanctuary

The Ridges Sanctuary is a State Natural Area in Door County, WI that is renowned for its spectacular diversity of wildflowers, including many threatened species and a wide variety of orchids. It is an area of swells and swales created by the receeding waters of Lake Michigan at the end of the last glaciation. Each swell, which is prominent in the aerial view of the region, represents the former position of the Lake Michigan shoreline. This gallery is in commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of its founding.
