This is a book about a preserve in Door County, WI named the Ridges Sanctuary. It consists of a series of thirty ridges and intervening swales, created by fluctuations of in the level of Lake Michigan, which contain an amazing diversity of almost 500 species of plants. Many of the plants are rare, including numerous species of orchids. Over one hundred of these species are depicted in the book along with descriptions which reveal the fascinating means by which they survive in this isolated boreal climate.
