August 24- Quonset Hut
You just don't see many of these any more.
A Quonset hut is a lightweight prefabricated structure
of corrugated steel having a semicircular cross section.
The design was based on the Nissen hut developed
by the British during World War I.
The name comes from their site of first manufacture,
Quonset Point, at the Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center
in Davisville (a village located within the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island).
In 1941 the United States Navy needed an all-purpose,
lightweight building that could be shipped anywhere
and assembled without skilled labor. - Wikipedia

I think I have mentioned before that we are
season ticket holders to the Pasadena Playhouse.
Friday evening we attended a play called “Fences",
not knowing anything about the play.
Well, when we arrived and saw that it was starring
Lawrence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, we were thrilled.
Also appearing in the cast were Orlando Jones and Kadeem Hardison.
It was outstanding! Such an intimate setting
to see such wonderful stars perform.
Our season seats are in the balcony, front row, center
(which is approximately above row 12).
The play was written by August Wilson, who is also worth checking out.
Well, if that wasn’t enough, we got up this morning
to go to the LA County Museum of Art to see the
David Hockney “Portraits” exhibition. Truly,
the best thing I have seen in a long time at LACMA.
If you don’t know about Hockney, find out.
He is extraordinary.
What a great weekend.

August 30- Finally
For some reason, Pbase would not allow me to upload yesterday.
Anyone who has been with them for a while knows the ups and downs
of this service but, they have always seemed to get things worked out
and running again. Hope this was just a hiccup.
