Madrasa Maridaniye

At Al Jisr al-Abiad, with the Madrasa Maridaniye as a first sight. It is originally Ayyubid from 1213 and was much simpler then we see it now. It was founded by a princess of the house of the lords of Mardin, now in Turkey, Ikhshawra Khatun, wife of the Ayyubid ruler al-Muazzam Issa, she was probably a niece of Nur al-Din. She was never buried here, as was her intention for founding it, as she died in Mecca. I did not manage to get in to see some of the fine woodwork there.

The minaret is later, probably from 1413, erected by the Mamluk Amsanak Ibn Uzdamur who is buried in the mosque.
