In this gallery the organizing principle is “souq”: mainly roofed shopping streets, some without a roof for part of the tract. Along them there are khans. Using the formidable “The monuments of Syria” guidebook by Ross Burns I visited the souqs and their khans (defined in that book as "combined warehouse and hostel for merchants"). They provide a sense of really "being inside old Damascus".
