The Madrasa Sahibiye, 1233-1245 built by Rabia Khatun, a sister of Saladin and wife of the benefactor of the Hanbali Mosque, prince Gokburi.. It’s the only madrasa in Damascus of which the plan has been unchanged (according to a Sauvaget, according to Ross Burns). The style is northern Syrian: a fine honeycombed portal, restrained geometric decoration around the door and windows. I did not make it to the courtyard, which has two iwans. It has no cupolas, just barrel vault, cloisters and cross vaults. I like it and would have liked to see more of it.
The entrance.
