Damascus sept 2009 4875.jpg

The Mosque and Mausoleum of Skeikh Mohi al-Din or Jamai al-Selemi, it was quickly constructed by the Ottomans when they took over Damascus in 1516, they had a plan to promote Sufism. Mohi al-Din Ibn al-Arabi was born in 1165 in Andalusia and died in 1240. The mosque was constructed under Sultan Selim I and restored in 1947/8.

Some tiles of the kind I know so well from Turkey. By the time the mosque was completed Iznik tile producers were at their best.
